This hill- top fortress was built by Maharaja jai Singh II in 1726 It is among the few fortresses of medieval India which are stil preserved almost intact. Within its rugged bastions are beautiful palaces, well maintained gardens, granary and a tall watch tower. But the pride of Jaigarh is the ‘Jai Ban’ cannon, which is supposed to be the largest canon of its type in Asia. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. And has a 20 ft. long barrel. While the diameter of the wheels is 9 ft. For a single short from this monstrous canon a minimum of 100 kg. Gun powder is required.
The fort is also famous of the legendary tales associated with treasures of the Mina tribe. It is believed that the treasure still lies hidden in the precincts of the fort. While some say the treasure was utilized by jai Singh II in building his dream city, Jaipur
